Coping with the Holidays

Coping with the holidays when we are battling cancer can be an added stress rather than a time of joy. Worrying about what to eat, how to eat, not able to enjoy our meals, and managing nausea and vomiting can be a challenge. Not being able to participate in gatherings due to low counts or concerns about CoVID can aggravate a sense of loneliness and depression. Difficulty traveling because you have clotting issues, concerns about crowds and multiple medications can make one feel left out. And then there is the biggest stress of all: how to truly experience joy, how to truly be present when we are afraid of not being here at all.

Join us as Dr. Roy and her team tackle this thorny topic and help us to navigate the holidays and get to the other side, intact and with some peace.

Registration Details: The registration link will take you to the Gilda’s Club event calendar. Please be sure to click on the Coping with the Holidays event on December 16th. If you are not a Gilda’s member, you will need to create a free account with just your name and email.

What to do about Intimacy and Sex with a Cancer Diagnosis

  • Associates of Integrative Medicine (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us on Thursday, October 7th at 4 pm to talk about Sex (and Cancer...)!

This discussion will focus on an aspect of treatment and survivorship that isn't often discussed: Resuming healthy and fun intimacy during and after cancer treatment.

Sexual function problems can include: erectile dysfunction, incontinence, vaginal dryness, changes in vaginal discharge and odor, rectal changes, colitis and rectal pain, surgical constraints and ostomy issues, anticipatory anxiety, changes in desire, emotional comfort, body image, implant concerns and pain. And all of these are all things that can come up with treatment.

Loss of intimacy is something that our doctors rarely talk to us about and it's a topic that can be hard for us even to bring up with our partners. But sexual intimacy and a sense of comfort in our own skin, is an important part of being overall, well.

Join us as Dr. Roy speaks on these sensitive issues with frank informational tips on how to get back to a place of joy and comfort in your sex life and recover optimal health during and after treatment. This talk is appropriate whether you are single or partnered as good health is important in either case.

Join us on Thursday, October 7th at 4 pm for this virtual discussion by registering with Gildas Metro Detroit and using this link:
